Tidying up isn’t about willpower; it’s about flow and a timer.
The best approach to tidying up is to use a system, not willpower. For example: 1) Reduce the room’s items to only two kinds—a “definite spot” and a “temporary basket (for now, a box)”—to remove hesitation. 2) Make a rule of a “3-minute timer cleanup” at bedtime or after returning home and do it in a game-like way. 3) Place the trash can or laundry bag along the workflow path (beside the door, beside the bed, etc.) to minimize the distance to disposal. If you do these three things, your room will stay less likely to fall apart even with zero willpower.
