The countryside isn't empty—it's a playground.
I think people crowd into cities because the cities are like enormous coral reefs. They are dense and noisy, brimming with the 'instant pleasures' of novelty and convenience, even if a little dirty and stressful. The countryside is a slower magic — after long walks my mind finally quiets, I cook with seasonal ingredients, watch the weather come in like a show, and, looking at the stars, feel small in a good way; moments around a campfire, swimming, and tending the garden with friends, shared rituals. The trick is not to think of it as a place where you have 'nothing to do,' but as a playground for long, unhurried experiments with people you like.
