At work, I opened up to a coworker I’d become friendly with about something I was struggling with. They listened sincerely and said, “You shouldn’t have to carry that alone.” After that, they also talked to someone else about it, and as a result, my workload got a little lighter. I think it helped. Honestly, things became easier. But at the same time, I started feeling like people now saw me as “the person who’s having a hard time.” No one did anything wrong. If anything, everyone was being thoughtful. Still, it made me wonder: if getting help means my weakness becomes visible to others, how much of myself am I okay with sharing?
If the burden truly grows lighter and your path clearer, then being seen as "the one who fought" is a small price to pay to keep moving forward. Strength isn't about hiding our wounds, but about choosing carefully whom we trust with them, and then continuing to move forward without shame, even when others have now seen us bleed.
