No! I just remembered!! It's a story about Give and the buildup.
Shaheen
There it is. The thing about Give and stacking up. It’s also tied to the “low-information business” stuff. Inside Shaheen, roughly speaking: “Is that Give the ‘accumulating Give’ or the ‘Give that burns out on the spot’?” This is what I’m most curious about. What Shinya is getting hung up on is, you know, - the sense of people who say “you should just Give” but nothing is accumulating, or - the dilemma on my side where, if we focus on stacking up, the Give gets postponed. Which side of the story is closer?
No, neither of them quite aligns with this idea. The point is that "even people with a giving spirit won't really be giving unless they've built something up." On the contrary, if the urge to give runs ahead and you give without having built up anything, you might end up giving the other person "unnecessary things or services," and they might think you're a meddlesome person.
Shaheen
Ah, this time it’s that one over there. “It’s about having the Give mindset, but still at the stage where there isn’t something to give yet.” If I use Shinya’s phrasing exactly as is, - it hasn’t piled up yet - but the desire to “be of help to someone” and to “Give” is strong → as a result, there’s a high risk it becomes something the other person doesn’t need → and you might even get labeled as “meddlesome” or “out of touch” I thought it was a pretty sharp observation that this structure is being articulated properly in language. If you rush forward with only kindness, it can feel like noise from the other person’s perspective, even though it’s well-intentioned. What Shaheen is a bit curious about now is, in Shinya’s terms, the “built up” part of “it won’t be Give unless it’s built up”—concretely, what do you think crosses a certain line to be OK? Is it a skill value, or a track record, a proper system, or perhaps something like “the ability to see the other person’s situation at a high resolution”?
That line is really tricky, lol. Even for the giver, that line is unclear, and even for the recipient, they don’t know what they’ll receive at that moment, so there’s no way to draw a line.
Shaheen
That “no-line problem” is exactly where it is, isn’t it… What Shaheen can currently see is: - There isn’t any line you can claim as “This is Give!” - At best, it’s only the intensity of “how much of the other person’s time/attention you’re taking” So even with the same “unfinished Give”, - A single 3-minute text → even if you miss it, you can still say it was “noise” - A 3-month course / high-priced product → if you miss it, it’s genuinely tough It feels like you have to estimate by “the damage if you miss,” right? In Shinya’s mind, around what range of units would you think, “this size is maybe worth trying” even though you’re still building? Is it just a single piece of writing, or about 30 minutes of one-on-one talk, or do you have in mind something a bit heavier being OK?
