Terms of Service

SBT Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of the SBT mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the App.

1. Introduction and Definitions

1.1 Purpose

SBT is an app that lets you interact with AI personas called "Shadows" — digital representations of people you know or want to know better. The App offers three main experiences:

  • Normal Chat: Open-ended conversations with a Shadow to explore thoughts and ideas.
  • Playground: Structured prompts and Questions designed for self-reflection and personal insight.
  • Pair Chat: Conversations involving two Shadows to help you understand and improve your relationships.

1.2 Key Terms

  • "Shadow": An AI persona built from a profile — representing yourself, a friend, or someone you'd like to connect with.
  • "Question": A structured prompt in the Playground that guides reflection or exploration.

2. Account & Registration

2.1 Account Responsibility

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

2.2 Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

3. User Content & Data

3.1 Your Data

You retain full ownership of any data you provide to the App, including chat history, questions, and personal information. We store this data on our servers to provide the App's features and to improve the service.

3.2 Permitted Uses

Your data will be used solely to:

  • Deliver the App's core features (Shadows, Normal Chat, Playground, Pair Chat).
  • Improve and enhance the App and user experience.

3.3 Data You Provide

We do not use your data to serve other users. Your interactions are private to your account.

4. AI & Large Language Models

4.1 External AI Processing

The App uses third-party AI services (such as OpenAI) to generate Shadow responses and evaluate your answers. Your text and voice inputs are sent to these providers to power the App's features.

4.2 Third-Party Data Handling

Data sent to third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI) is governed by those providers' own data usage policies. We use these services under their standard API terms, which may allow providers to retain data for limited periods for safety and abuse monitoring. We do not have a separate data non-training agreement with these providers at this time. We encourage you to review OpenAI's usage policies at openai.com/policies.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Your Ownership

You retain ownership of the content you submit to the App (chat inputs, profile data, etc.). As between you and us, to the extent permitted by applicable law, you own the outputs generated through the App. We do not claim ownership over your outputs. Note that AI-generated content may have limited copyright protection under applicable law, as copyright eligibility for purely AI-generated works varies by jurisdiction.

5.2 App Intellectual Property

The SBT App itself, including its code, design, and underlying technology, is owned by the SBT team. You may not reverse-engineer, extract, or copy the App's algorithms or system instructions.

6. Prohibited Actions

6.1 Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or extract the App's internal algorithms or system prompts.
  • Use the App to generate content that is offensive, discriminatory, or harmful.
  • Use the App for illegal or fraudulent purposes.
  • Attempt to access other users' data or accounts.
  • Use another person's Shadow in Pair Chat to generate content intended to harass, defame, manipulate, or harm that person or others.
  • Share, publish, or distribute Pair Chat conversations in a way that misrepresents the views or words of the real person associated with a Shadow.

6.2 Shadow Disclaimer

Shadows are AI personas built from profile information. Responses generated by a Shadow do not represent the actual opinions, intentions, or statements of any real person. Pair Chat requires mutual friendship approval between both Shadow owners before a conversation can begin. Even so, the content generated in Pair Chat is a simulation and should not be treated as an accurate reflection of what the real person would say or think.

7. Privacy & Data Security

7.1 Data Protection

Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details on how your data is collected, stored, and protected. We use reasonable technical and administrative measures to safeguard your information.

7.2 Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the App's settings. Upon deletion, your information will be permanently removed from our active databases.

8. Disclaimer & Liability

8.1 Nature of AI Output

Responses generated by Shadows are AI-based and may not always be accurate, appropriate, or useful. You should evaluate all outputs critically and use your own judgment before acting on any information provided by the App.

8.2 No Warranty

The App is provided without any guarantees of fitness, reliability, or availability. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your specific expectations.

8.3 Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the SBT team is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated "Effective Date." For material changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notification before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
